Episode 1: The Checkout Trap!
The ticket page blinked once.
Super Saver leaned closer to the screen. The comic convention banner scrolled past in bright colors—exclusive panels, limited merch, the kind of thing that sold out if you sneezed at the wrong time.
The price sat there, calm and confident. $45.00
Super Saver clicked Continue.
The number rearranged itself.
$45.00 became $57.18.
Super Saver frowned. “That’s… new.”
The checkout page flickered. A shadow peeled itself off the screen and stepped into the room, made of glowing numbers and receipt paper. The figure adjusted a hat with a digital display that blinked FINAL TOTAL.
“I wouldn’t call it new,” the figure said pleasantly. “You’re just seeing more of it now.”
A large digital price tag hung from his neck, the numbers ticking upward in soft red light.
“Who are you?” Super Saver asked.
The figure smiled the way loading bars do when they’re almost finished.
“Someone who helps things reach their total.”
The checkout buttons began to float, drifting closer to Super Saver’s hands.
“Those weren’t there a second ago,” Super Saver said, nodding at the growing list of fees.
“They were always there,” the figure replied. “You just hadn’t invited them into view.”
The price on his chest blinked.
SERVICE
PROCESSING
FACILITY
“You wanted a ticket,” he continued. “This is the cost of wanting.”
Super Saver hesitated. The convention countdown timer ticked louder in the corner of the screen.
“Don’t wait too long,” the figure said kindly. “You’re almost done paying.”
The digital display on his hat pulsed once.
ALMOST DONE
Super Saver took a breath and pulled their hand back from the button.
The figure’s smile twitched.
Meanwhile…
The checkout screen dimmed. The room brightened.
Super Saver stood, ticket secured, heart still thumping.
Then the travel app chimed.
A new price loaded. Then split into pieces. Then stacked itself taller than the first.
From somewhere behind the glass of the phone, a familiar voice drifted in—pleasant, patient.
“Getting there is part of the total.”
The platform lights flickered.

🧠 Reality Check: The Ticket Checkout Trap
The Trap:
Event tickets often show a base price first, then stack on service, processing, and facility fees at checkout.
Why It Happens:
Separating fees makes the upfront price look lower—and countdown timers and “limited availability” push people to click fast.
How to Dodge It Next Time:
Click through to see the final total before deciding
Compare total prices across ticket platforms
Check if the venue sells tickets directly (sometimes fewer fees)
Screenshot prices so sudden jumps are easier to spot
